9. – 10. Dezember 2017, Facilitator: Alan Bern
In many folk music traditions, to be able to improvise variations based on simple melodies or harmonies is the mark of the master musician. Trading back-and-forth different ways to vary a melody is one of the great joys of playing with other musicians.
In this workshop, we’ll start with folk melodies from different traditions (Anglo-Irish, Balkan, Klezmer, Cajun) and explore how to improvise idiomatic variation in each musical language. We will work both by ear and with written music.
For instrumentalists and vocalists with good technical ability, some experience learning and playing music by ear, and able to read simple written music.
Language: German and Englisch.
