From conscious perception to free play

9. – 10. November 2019, Facilitator: Ulrike Lentz

Deep Listening studygroup

The dream of free play is probably as old as humanity’s dream of flying. The big difference: to crash in free game is harmless. In this workshop, we refine our perceptions, find clear impulses, and experience how we can confide in the inner formative power that forms in and with the group context.

Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016) is regarded as a pioneer in electronic music and was a renowned composer and improviser. She developed DEEP LISTENING using this professional background and founded the DEEP LISTENING INSTITUTE. The aim of the DL practice is to increase the awareness of sound. Sensitizing this awareness goes beyond “pure” hearing and together we want to open up as much as we can – each individually.

This workshop is not just for musicians, but for all people interested in development and sound; also to people without previous musical knowledge. Personal musical instruments are included but are not required for participation.

Ulrike Lentz brings in her own experiences and materials as a longtime improviser.

In this workshop you will find elements like:

  • different types of hearing / listening
  • sound meditation
  • sound walk
  • playful use of sound to get into contact with dreams
  • play Deep Listening pieces by P. Oliveros
  • free improvisation
