Due to the increasing danger of the corona virus in Berlin, we’ve regretfully decided to cancel the workshop at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience! And of course, we are also disappointed. As soon as the public health situation is back to normal we will look for the next available time to offer this workshop. The Team of the Other Music Academy
We’re very pleased to announce that the 2020 session of the OMA Improvisation Project Workshop will take place at the exploratorium berlin, from April 5-10. The workshop will focus on Present-Time Composition (PTC) for introductory through intermediate levels (for all instruments and voice), as well as body, breath and voice for all musicians and especially for vocalists
Since its creation in 2005, hundreds of musicians have been introduced to Alan Bern’s Present-Time Composition (PTC) and found it to be a powerful approach to creating music spontaneously, bridging improvisation and composition. PTC can transform how you hear, understand and make music, even if you are already an experienced improviser. In this workshop, Alan Bern will be assisted by Nicolaas Cottenie, who has taught PTC at the Antwerp Conservatory, at the Berlin Exploratorium and elsewhere in Europe. The third workshop leader will be Birthe Bendixen, a highly respected vocal performer and teacher and a major presence on the New Music scene in Germany and internationally whose work explores deep connections between artistic creativity and self-realization through the voice, breath and body. She joins the OMA Improvisation Project team for the first time and we welcome her very warmly!
The workshop is open for improvisers with and without PTC experience as well as for musicians who have never improvised before. The atmosphere of this workshop is open, relaxed and supportive and at the same time intense and challenging. It is aimed at instrumentalists and vocalists with intermediate through advanced technique, moderate through extensive experience with music improvisation and no experience through intermediate experience with PTC. The workshop will be taught in English. Every reasonable effort will be made to provide translations if necessary (German), but there is no guarantee that each teaching session will be translated into all languages spoken by all participants.
IMPORTANT! In order for the workshop to take place, there must be at least 15 registered participants by March 15. If not, we will have to cancel it this time, and anyone who has registered will get a full refund. So please register as soon as possible to help make sure that it happens! And please consider getting workshop travel insurance, so that in the worst case you get back the money you would have spent on travel.
