Many of the burning issues of our time have one thing in common: they cannot be considered locally. Whether climate change, sustainability, human rights violations or worldwide migration movements – the phenomena have a global impact and are interlinked. Global learning sheds light on the underlying connections and highlights meaningful opportunities for action in our everyday lives.
In this training course, I will explain how global learning can be organised and how a musical and playful framework can be created for it. The focus is on water as a vital resource. And just as the children in my workshops explore this changeable element musically, the participants in this training programme also embark on water-based sound research.
We explore playful improvisation, composition and guided ensemble playing. Our basis is listening to, reflecting on and musically describing the sounds of water. Using sound instruments such as stainless steel drinking straws and various kitchen utensils, we examine and expand the natural sound spectrum of water. Its hissing, gurgling, splashing and chirping (yes, chirping!) will become compositional material for musical miniatures. In the ensemble, we imitate weather phenomena such as drizzle, cloudbursts and thunderstorms with simple instruments and transform them into free sound forms. Using easy-to-understand principles of conducting, we work out musical variations and tonal subtleties. All the methods presented can be used directly in working with children.
As an artist and educational consultant for global learning, I combine political education with elements of artistic practice in my workshops. On this basis, I have been developing and leading educational projects for primary, lower and upper secondary schools in Berlin and Brandenburg for several years. In my workshops and projects, I work on topics such as water, seeds, sustainability, climate change and flight. As part of BREBIT, I was involved in the development of the handout for educators on global learning education programmes.
In arts education, I specialise in musical staging and graphic notation.
