The legendary free improvisation group ALTERATIONS has been playing together since 1977. It forms a bridge to the roots of free music, which consists of the sound experiment as well as in the energetic fusion of stylistic elements of lounge music, dub and rock. In his recently published book Into the Maelstrom David Toop describes the beginnings of free improvisation under the aspect of a concept of freedom, which was also reflected in society. Sound and lecture No 9 will focus on the music in the first set and presents a talk with David Toop and the others in the second part. We want to talk about the dream of freedom (subtitle of the book), which improvised music promised to its protagonist at that time and which today certainly looks different but represents a current question.
