After having welcomed the legendary Schlippenbach Trio several times in the past, the famous Globe Unity Orchestra is now playing for the first time in the exploratorium berlin!
The Globe Unity Orchestra is an instance and an impressive constant in the history of free improvisation and European jazz. Founded in 1966 by the pianist and composer Alexander von Schlippenbach, it still causes a sensation on the concert stages of major festivals. The concert on the Berliner Jazztage in 1966 was the founding manifesto, and at this major Berlin event, now renamed Jazzfest Berlin, they played again in 2016 for their 50th anniversary. In between were numerous concerts and recordings. The current cast reads like an excerpt of the Who’s Who of the Berlin jazz and improvisation scene, as the then leader of the jazz festival Richard Williams emphasizes: “The Globe Unity Orchestra is an ensemble of enormous historical significance for jazz. The current cast, consisting of musicians of several generations and nationalities, lives up to the responsibility of really creating new music, rejecting the everyday and avoiding stereotypes every time they play together.”
