David Moss – singer, drummer, performer, composer – is considered one of the most innovative soloists in contemporary music. He first performs a solo and then plays with the electronics musician Boris Hegenbart in their duo-mono-lith.

David Moss is a pioneer of the solo concert form and has collaborated with composers, theater directors and opera houses across Europe, Japan and the US. In 1991 he received the Guggenheim Fellowship, in 1992 the DAAD Scholarship, in 2008/09 and 2016/17 the scholarship of the Interweaving Performance Cultures Center of the FU Berlin; 2018 he was awarded the German Music Authors Award in the category “Experiment Voice”. He has been performing worldwide since 1975 and works with numerous international artists, ensembles and orchestras. He is the founder and artistic director of the Institute for Living Voice, which has hosted international masterclasses since 2001. In Provokalia workshops he works throughout Europe with amateur and professional choirs. As an improviser, he worked with countless international scene greats such as Derek Bailey, Carla Bley, Fred Frith, Malcolm Goldstein, Louis Moholo, Pauline Oliveros, Evan Parker, Jon Rose, Irène Schweitzer, David Toop, John Zorn and many more.

With Boris Hegenbart David Moss is the duo-mono-lith. In his electro-acoustic compositions, Boris Hegenbart combines the aesthetics of the historical musique concrète with our day’s digital technologies of music production and sound synthesis, without restricting himself by software limitations. For him, this software, as well as music-samples and sounds of his everyday life, become material to be molded according to his artistic intentions.

Since its 2016 premiere  duo-mono-lith has created a program that binds, and then releases,  metal, wood, mixers, mouth, microphones/megaphones, machinery, meditative mystery, and musical meat and potatoes into the microscopic/macroscopic lithosphere. Hegenbart is an expert in recombining the human voice, acoustic instruments and electronic sounds.  He delves into the vibratory protoplasm of audio events, and recasts the organic machinery into jumping audio enigmas. Moss is widely known for his powerful vocal performances. He magically transforms his voice through the most extreme yet intimate forms — casting the world’s air into inexplicable songs and human chants.
