Absolutely unusual lined up sextet, Sestetto Internazionale delivers intriguing inventive, fresher, refined instant compositions. Brilliant interplay, intriguing inner voices and tone nuance declinations are the sincere output of Sestetto Internazionale featuring some of the most innovative voices in the contemporary improvised music scene. Contemporary flavours, subtle narrations, detailed soundscapes and chamber music elegance in an engaging performance.
The Finnish saxophonist Harri Sjöström, who has been living in Berlin for several decades, has not only played in different European free improvisation combos, but also among others in Cecil Taylor’s band. He has been putting the Sestetto Internazionale together, as a truly international group of European musicians, for a September 2015 tour of Finland. In addition to Sjöström, the sextet includes fellow Finn accordionist Veli Kujala; Italian soprano saxophonist Gianni Mimmo; UK violinist Alison Blunt; and the Berliners Achim Kaufmann and Ignaz Schick on piano and turntables.
