As a pianist and sound researcher, Magda Mayas has been working for 20 years on how preparations, amplifications and objects can expand the sound possibilities of the instrument. She did her doctorate on this topic and has presented her work many times in workshops. Since 2019, she has been head of the improvisation department at the Lucerne School of Music.

In our series Workshop spezial, in which we invite important protagonists of the international improvisation scene to a concert and a workshop, Magda Mayas will present various methods of how objects and preparations can be used as multi-sensory tools in improvisation. The personal relationship to one’s own instrument forms the starting point for developing, expanding and internalising instrumental techniques for a respective individual “timbre vocabulary”.

The workshop is aimed at advanced improvisers, all instruments and voices are welcome.

The workshop had to be cancelled at short notice in January and will now take place on this new date.

For this event, the 3G Plus Corona regulation applies: Participants have to present a valid proof of vaccination or convalescence or an up-to-date test. In addition, masks are compulsory, but may be taken off when singing or playing wind instruments.
