Although it seems rather impossible to improvise in the polyphonic style of Josquin, Ockghem, Lasso, and Palestrina, some basics are quite easy to learn and sound very well in a group of more than four singers. It´s astonishing that the group behavior while improvising in this style is really similar to free improvisation.
This weekend workshop is for everyone who wants to learn polyphonic vocal improvisation in Renaissance style. Historic solmization practice and canon techniques are taught after historic methods of the 15.–17. century. Participation with instruments, especially strings, winds, brass, and percussion, is welcome and desired.
Workshop in German and English
In times of Corona, special rules also apply in the exploratorium, which are summarized here: link
Singing indoors is currently permitted under certain strict conditions. Thanks to its two large halls, the exploratorium can meet these requirements, so the workshop can take place as planned. There will be regular breaks in ventilation and the group will alternate between the two large halls so that a complete exchange of air can take place in each unused hall. The number of participants is limited to 10.
Please note that pre-registration is required for all events due to the limited number of places. The registration form can be found at the bottom of this page.
