Biliana Voutchkova
Biliana Voutchkova is a thoroughly committed composer, performer and interpreter whose work combines regular performances of major works for solo violin and ensemble, new works by contemporary composers, often written for her, and improvisation.
Her research as a creative improviser embraces the widest possible range of sound/music/movement and expands the tonal and technical possibilities of her instrument, resulting in the development of a highly individual musical language. Biliana lives in Berlin and performs at festivals and concert series worldwide.
She works as a soloist and in collaboration with the Splitter Orchestra, the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, the Ensemble Modern, the ensembles United Berlin, Mozaik, Zeitkratzer, LUX:NM and Sasha Waltz & Guests, to name but a few.
Her recent projects include solo concerts at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, GAS, Mózg, Moving Music and Radar Festival, the release of her solo album “Modus of Raw”, a concert tour of the USA with the duo Voutchkova/Thieke supported by the Goethe Institute and performances at Klangwerkstatt, Documenta14, Wien Modern, Experimental Intermedia and Gent Festival.
Biliana received the Berlin Senate Composition Scholarship in 2017 and scholarships from the INM Berlin and the Trust for Mutual Understanding in New York in 2016.
