Elena Margarita Kakaliagou
Horn player, born in 1979 in Volos/Greece, studied in Athens (GR), Graz (AT) and completed her master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy (FI) before choosing Berlin as the base for her freelance musical activities in 2010.
With teachers such as H. McDonald, E. Joukamo-Ampuja, M. Svoboda, A. Shilkloper and V. Skouras, as a scholarship holder of the Ensemble Modern, the Klangforum and through inspiration from the folk, jazz, new and free music scene, Elena developed a diversity in her playing and musical expression. She is particularly interested in contemporary music and free improvisation in music, often in collaboration with other artistic disciplines.
She is a co-founder of Nabelóse, a member of the ensembles Zinc & Copper, P.O.P. and Zeitkratzer. More than 15 albums have been released under her name. Elena has played at festivals such as Musica /FR, Musica Nova/FI, Randspiele/DE, Maerz Musik/DE, newadits/AT, artacts/AT, Kaleidophon/AT, Sound LiveTokyo/JA, Ultima/NY etc. She has been invited to artistic residencies such as MUKU/Tyrol, Hotel Pupik/AT and UNCOOL in Switzerland.
