Like any other musical language, klezmer music consists not only of a common repertoire of melodies, rhythms and harmonies, but also of ways to vary them. Variation is improvisation; it is the basis for the development of an individual style and also for how musicians communicate and ‘play’ with each other. In this workshop we will explore both traditional and contemporary approaches to improvising variations. For vocalists and instrumentalists with solid technical skills. Some previous experience with klezmer music is helpful, but not necessary.
