Mirkaledo – Streicherseminar

© Karsten Kelsch

Improvisation for violin, viola, cello, bass and everything that can be played on strings. Beginners to professionals!

In this course I would like to work with the participants on the Mirkaledo approach especially for string players. Mirkaledo approach means “drawing from the source” via direct access: Body perception, feelings and contact.
This approach, which initially seems extra-musical, will be transferred to the musical realm in the course of the course in a concrete way to the circumstances, the player and the instrument.

Body perception and the transfer to the musical realm
Perceiving your own mass in terms of the power inherent in it.
“Doing and not doing” forces obey the primal movement of the breath.
breathe – collect – feel; collect – feel – breathe; feel – breathe – collect
We explore the effect of the force, from the mass moved by the breath with regard to the instrument and the sound. In addition, the voice acts as a mediator between movement, breath flow and sound. In this way, sound-movement forms and musical structures are born from the physical.

Feelings and the transfer into music
Feelings are like waves, they merge into one another. They fill the inner space with content and are expressed through it in my/your environment.

Feelings tell and express themselves in sound, in melodies, in rhythms, in noises, especially in dynamics… Here, too, the impulse via the voice paves the way. How would I now produce something with my voice and how exactly does that work with the instrument?

Contact and the transfer into music
Contact with myself, with the space that completely surrounds me and with the other people.
Here, the self and the foreign work together. Contact in music always moves along the border. In the in-between realm. The relationship is set to music through the relationship between the tones and sounds.
Composition, voice leading, instrumentation, unison, polyphony, solo, duo, trio, string quartet, string orchestra …
The contact ensures the balance of differences through resonance.
How do I sound in others? Do others sound in me?

The course is aimed at anyone interested, whether self-taught, beginner or professional. We will work in various constellations such as solo, duo, trio, quartet … and tutti.

Please bring a functioning string instrument.

Bookings for individual appointments are possible after consultation with the lecturer.

Minimum 5 participants.
