In the training course, we teach practical methods and workshop modules from our own practice. The Math x Art project of the association Die Lernwerkstatt – lernen und lernen lassen e.V. has been developing workshop formats for children and young people since 2015, in which mathematical and physical phenomena can be experienced through the senses and explored using artistic methods. These experiences are embedded in a creative group process that usually ends with a joint performance.
In the workshop “Sound and shadow – a journey of discovery through the world of change”, pupils in grades 3-6 can explore topics from mathematics and physics using art and music.
The children playfully explore surfaces, bodies and projections, working with translations from two to three dimensions and vice versa. The phenomena of light and sound are used artistically, while their physical properties are explored and reflected upon. Different exercises lead to intermediate results that culminate in a joint sound and shadow play in which creatures travel from the “flatland” to a three-dimensional “world of change” and solve the riddle of the nocturnal sounds there.
The focus and scope of the training can be arranged individually depending on the interests of the group.
