Armando Chuh
Born in 1956 in São Paulo, Brazil. At the age of nine, he gave his first concert with percussion, vocals and acoustic guitar. From the age of 12, he was a snare drummer in the “Gavioes da Fiel” samba school. He was already active in the São Paulo music scene at a young age, playing in groups of various musical styles and making numerous recordings.
In 1977 he studied percussion at the Faculdade das Artes (Sao Paulo) with Walden Goncalvez, in 1982 classical percussion with Gordon Gottlieb and in 1984 with Carlo Tarcha and Djalma Colaneri. During this time, Armando Chuh also worked with the conductor Eleazar de Carvalho.
From 1983 to 1985 he was timpanist of the “Banda Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo” under the direction of Mto. Antonio Domingos Sacco.
Chuh has played with Paulo Moura, Fotuna, Edson Cordeiro, Carioca, Banda Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo, Orquestra Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo and Hermeto Pascoal, among others.
In Berlin since 1987. During this time collaborations with “Klaus Doldingers Passport” (D), “Kamaleshi Maitra” (In), “Janet Griece” (NY), “Sergej Kurjochin” (Rus), “Paulo Moura” (Br) and others. 2000 Soloist with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. Also solo concerts and workshops for Brazilian percussion in Europe.
