Christina Ertl-Shirley

Christina Ertl-Shirley is a sound artist, author and dramaturge. Her artistic works revolve around the hidden stories of landscapes, habitats of more-than-human beings and microcosms, which are often located at the edge of what can be perceived. She is interested in the peculiarities, resistance and strangeness of nature, and in how we encounter it.

She combines acoustic and visual explorations with narrative approaches, using them to develop narratives in a variety of forms that open up multi-layered spaces. These include walk-in installations, radio plays, audio walks, experimental radio programmes and interdisciplinary formats.

Since 2012, she has led workshops for children and adults focusing on attentive listening, imaginative storytelling, and joint environmental exploration. The results include deep-sea stories, miniatures about plants on building sites and sound pieces about beetles. These works shift our perception, open up new perspectives, and encourage us to experience the world differently.
