Mansoor Hosseini
is a composer and teacher specializing in improvisation and multidisciplinary art forms such as music theater, dance theater and other combinations involving music.
He studied music, theater and movement at the Conservatoire de Paris, the Conservatoire de Bruxelles and the University of Gothenburg and has been working in various art forms since 2000.
He also studied film music at the University of Gothenburg and screenwriting at the Gothenburg Film School.
As an improviser, he began as a drummer, fascinated by the spontaneous creation of sounds, and has performed with various musicians and ensembles. Both in the avant-garde style and in world music. In other words, he applied his improvisational ideas to various forms of music. Later he used the system of improvisation in some of his notated contemporary compositions by writing different notations to encourage the musicians to improvise according to a given structure. A kind of controlled improvisation. This led Hosseini to give lectures and workshops on notation, improvisation and composition, but above all on communication between musicians and with the space around them.
Mansoor Hosseini has received several grants and prizes for his teaching and compositions from the Swedish Cultural Foundation (Konstnärsnämnden), the Swedish Cultural Council (Statens Kulturråd), the Committee for Music Development and Cultural Heritage, the Nordic Cultural Foundation, the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Fund (Svensk-Finsk kulturfond), the Swedish Composers’ Association, the Cultural Committee of the City of Gothenburg and others.
