Raffael Kircher
has been improvising since the age of ten, first on the piano and later on the saxophone.
Over the last few decades, his collaboration with artists from many parts of the world has enabled him to develop a broad, individual spectrum of expression, ranging from experimental soundscapes and contemplative improvisations to concrete, rhythmic-melodic compositions.
During an intensive apprenticeship with saxophonist Johannes Barthelmes in Berlin, he founded the world jazz formation “Kirit” together with drummer Thomas Ritthoff at the end of the 1980s, which made a name for itself at home and abroad for many years and produced several albums.
Collaborations with Brigitte Menon (Paris, sitar), Hossam Shaker (Cairo, kanoun), Shanti Oyarzabal (Mexico City, physical theatre), among others.
At the beginning of the 2000s, the project “minT” was created with the violinist and film composer Lutz Wernicke. This was followed by several silent film concerts with classics (Menschen am Sonntag, Der Mann mit der Kamera and others) and live ambient concerts.
Other projects: “Perlophon”, acoustic song trio, “Trans Blas”, duo with didgeridoo and jew’s harp, “Rumi Project” (2009 to 2019), poems and songs by the Sufi poet Mevlana Rumi.
Instrumental teacher for saxophone since 2007.
2021/22 Further training in improvisation pedagogy with Prof. Dr Peter Jarchow at exploratorium berlin (with certificate).
