Sue Koppel

Sue Koppel is an Ecuadorian-German physical theatre actress and theatre pedagogue. She studied theatre with a focus on directing at the Universidad Especialidades Espíritu Santo. For four years she specialised in dramatic physical theatre with the theatre company Teatro del Cielo. At the same time, she worked as a theatre teacher with children and young people in educational and cultural institutions. After completing her studies, she led various theatre education projects in Ecuador. She then began working independently as a lecturer and gave workshops for adults on stage presence, body and voice. During this time, she also worked as a theatre teacher with children and young people in educational and cultural institutions. She has lived in Germany since 2017, is a state-certified theatre teacher and has additional qualifications in theatre methods for language teaching and cultural management. In 2018, she founded her own company *The Thinking Body, gave workshops for adults at the VHS Cologne and worked as a lecturer for Physical Theatre and Mime with the improv theatre group Los Improsibles in Cologne.

It was in Berlin that she discovered the free jazz scene. This opened up new possibilities for her artistic expression and formed the starting point for her research into the significance of scenic improvisation. Combining the principles of Mimes Corporel improvisation with the approaches of free jazz, she has developed the foundations of what she calls Free Mime.
She has performed with various artists on the Berlin scene at venues such as Peppi Guggenheim, 90Mill, PAS, Hosek Contemporary and exploratorium berlin.
