Tayfun Guttstadt

studied musicology and Middle Eastern studies in Hamburg.

He plays classical guitar, ney (oriental reed flute) and various other instruments.
He studied Turkish-Ottoman music and Makam with teachers in Istanbul and Hamburg and played live with Özlem Taner, the Talipler Ensemble, Gilad Weiss, Alan Bern and others as well as in numerous solo concerts.
Tayfun Guttstadt has specialized in making the Makam-based music of the Middle East accessible and understandable for Western-trained musicians.

He has been teaching “Music of the Middle East” at Humboldt University in Berlin since 2016 and gives private lessons and workshops, including at the Yiddish Summer Weimar.
 At the same time, he is about to complete his M.A. in “Religion and Culture” at the Humboldt University of Berlin.
