Carl Ludwig Hübsch, an internationally renowned improvisational musician, composer and tuba player, will be leading the workshop; his work spans jazz, contemporary music and performance.
The workshop explores space as a musical instrument in the broadest sense, as well as performative interaction, language, movement, singing and music – everything related to improvisation.
In short: music is extended to cover all other performing arts. (Is a movement in space already a sound?)
We play, we talk, and then we play again. Through talking, we expand our listening and seeing; through listening and seeing, we expand our playing.
Games and game instructions that broaden our understanding and perception bring us into contact with one another.
Experienced or adventurous players can refine their skills here, gather new ideas, and meet others through play.
Those who are less experienced or new to improvisation are taking the plunge, because improvisation – more so than any other form of music – is truly accessible to all: you don’t need to be able to play anything, just listen. It’s all about meeting on equal terms.
