Ever since Pierre Schaeffer invented concrete music (musique concrète) in 1948 by recording and editing moving trains for his ‘Geräuschetüden’ in Paris, countless musicians and composers have explored the sounds of everyday life in a variety of ways. This course offers an introduction to this fascinating world of sound and introduces students to musical work with the computer. Build-on exercises and improvisations are complemented by listening to and discussing important pieces of electro-acoustic music.
Also suitable for beginners with little PC experience.
