The singer and clarinetist Isabelle Duthoit and the violinist and singer Biliana Voutchkova founded their duo in 2023. Their intensive collaboration grew out of Voutchkova’s six-month stay in Paris, during which they deepened their shared practice. At exploratorium, both artists are giving workshops in parallel, and we are taking this spontaneous opportunity to also present the duo in concert.
Both musicians have developed highly individual, extended instrumental vocabularies in which voice and instrument intertwine in multifaceted ways. In their collaboration, they unfold an open, highly sensitive interplay that oscillates between dense sonic textures, fragile moments, and eruptive gestures. The duo approaches improvisation as a space of shared attention, where individual forms of expression continuously shift and reconfigure.
Isabelle Duthoit is a singer and clarinetist working primarily in experimental and improvised music. Her practice moves at the intersections of voice, breath, noise, and language, and is marked by a radical expansion of vocal techniques. She collaborates internationally with musicians and composers from the free improvisation scene and regularly appears at festivals and in interdisciplinary contexts.
Biliana Voutchkova is a violinist, singer, and composer whose artistic practice connects improvisation, contemporary music, and performative approaches. She has developed a highly physical and immediate sonic language in which voice and violin function as equal means of expression. Alongside her international concert activity, she initiates her own formats and frequently works in collaborative, transdisciplinary contexts.
