leeways #4: Where Improvisation Intersects with the Rights of Nature – Tempoception: Improvisation, Poetics, Ecosystems

The Book: Angela Snæfellsjökuls Rawlings, Matthias Mainz & Joe Sorbara

Location: exploratorium berlin, Saal

Lecture performance and talk in English

The Book
Angela Snæfellsjökuls Rawlings (IS/CA): text, voice
Matthias Mainz (DE): text, voice, prepared piano
Joe Sorbara (CA): text, voice, table percussion
Moderation: Mathias Maschat

The Book is a multi-year improvisatory collaboration between Joe Sorbara (percussionist, Canada), Matthias Mainz (pianist, Germany), and Angela Snæfellsjökuls Rawlings (interdisciplinarist, Iceland). Working through sound, poetics, and ecosystems, their collaboration is contingent on attunement with planetary boundary tipping points, which govern their wellnesses, locations, travel potential, sociolegal realities, and politicised bodies. The trio explores the meeting-space between human and non-human time-conceptions which may activate a tempoception sense-ability within musicmaking-as-relations-as-communication.
