FAQ

• Who

  We make our spaces available for rehearsals, seminars, and other (internal) events in the fields of art and culture, as well as education. We offer fair rental rates, good acoustics, and a pleasant atmosphere for DIY operations (i.e. we are not a venue offering professional renting services).
  For inquiries regarding public events, we decide on a case-by-case basis whether the event fits our profile and is compatible with the exploratorium’s program schedule.
  We occasionally to collaborate in the realization of projects in the field of improvised music and related art forms. Decisions regarding collaborations are made through an internal curatorial process, and individual terms and conditions apply.

  We prefer requests for individual renting dates (or maximum one to four subsequent renting dates).

  Reduced rental rates are available upon request for active ensemble members, as well as for artists and freelancers closely associated with explo (active at explo on stage, as lecturers, or as workshop leaders within the past 18 months). If this applies, please complete the relevant fields in the rental request form.

  We kindly ask you to refrain from rental inquiries regarding the following, as we cannot consider:

  • regular appointments or serial events at recurring, fixed times
  • Private parties and birthday celebrations
  • Standard dance events (floors not suitable)
  • Rock music (soundproofing not suitable)
  • Organizers/institutions from the political or religious/spiritual spectrum.

• When

  Upon completing the planning of exploratoriums half term event and seminar program, we publish the booking calender with free time slots for renting. Here’s where and when to find this information:

  • Mid June we publish the calendar August/September until mid-February of the following year (i.e. starting end of Berlin summer holidays to mid-Februar)
  • Mid December we publish the calendar covering the perios mid-February until June/July (i.e. until the Berlin summer holidays start)
  • Mid April we publish our program during the Berlin summer holidays 

  There is a minimum rental period of 4 hours per booking process (either in one go or spread over several dates).

   

   

• What

  exploratorium berlin has several rooms on 4 floors.

  These 3 rooms are currently available for renting:

  • Studio 1 in the basement (ca. 60 m²)
  • Concert hall on the ground floor (ca. 200 m²)
  • Studio 2 on the second floor (ca. 80 m²)

  The foyers and stairwells can not be rented or used for rehearsals, as backstage areas, or for warming up or tuning instruments.

  Our offices and a library are situated on the first floor. All 4 floors are connected by an elevator.
  The rooms are barrier-free and can be accessed with pushchairs, wheelchairs or wheeled walkers. An accessible toilet is situated on the ground floor.
  With the existing sound insulation the rooms are not suitable for loud amplified music, nor are the floors suitable for standard dance events. Please also bear in mind that although our premises are soundproofed to the outside, noise may be heard within the building from neighboring rooms as well as from surrounding companies & tenants

  The exploratorium berlin is easily accessible via public transport.

• Services

  Please see the rental prices below. The listed prices include one room briefing free of charge. For additional briefings we will charge a flat rate of 20 € per briefing.

  Piano tuning can be arranged through exploratorium (if need be), it will cost approximately €130-150. You will have a separate contractual relationship with the piano tune for which exploratorium will not be responsible (regarding services, invoicing, or any warranty).

  Technical support (sound, lighting) must also be contractually agreed upon; due to limited personnel resources, this is only possible by prior arrangement and for an additional charge of €40 per hour.
