David Moss
When my father, Roy Moss, put his arms around me and played the drums in 1959, I was touched by the mystery of music.
As my life as a drummer turned into that of a singer, I explored the power of the voice in all its expressive forms.
Since then I have worked with artists of all genres all over the world (Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, Whitney Museum, Walker Art Centre, Salzburg Festival ….). I received recognition and support through a Guggenheim Fellowship and a DAAD Fellowship for Artists in Berlin.
As the director of the Institute for Living Voice (Berlin), I am able to embody voice and presence in a dramatic way, connecting people and ideas. I am perhaps the only artist who has sung and creatively interacted with the music of Luciano Berio, Carla Bley, Uri Caine, Heiner Goebbels, Olga Neuwirth, Helmut Oehring, Bach and Coltrane.
And now I simply want to make every new performance a surprising necessity and a small utopian moment.
