Further training in improvisation and improvisation pedagogy

© Sergej Horovitz

Facilitators: Heidemarie Wiesner, Peter Jarchow, Raffael Kircher

Location: exploratorium berlin, Studio 2

Workshop series in German language
All dates until February 2025: 27.–29.09.24 | 15.–17.11.24 | 24.–26.01.25 | 14.–16.02.25

The training is aimed at musicians (vocal, instrumental) who want to incorporate improvisation into their work, receive new inspiration or practice it in artistic encounters. Interested people from other disciplines (dance, fine arts, education, therapy) are welcome!

The main prerequisite for participation is an open, curious attitude. Musical knowledge and skills are helpful but not essential. You can/should bring your own instruments.

The dates are part of a continuous cycle. You can join a weekend course at any time. After attending around six weekend courses, you can register for an exam (certificate).

Thematic focus:

  • Group improvisation
  • Individual lessons (with observation of all participants)
  • Teaching samples
  • Theory of improvisation
  • Improvisation concerts in practice
  • Methodology of improvisation pedagogy
  • Playful and experimental handling of musical parameters:
    Rhythm/pulse/tempo, harmony, melody, dynamics, stylistics
  • Playing according to programmatic specifications: Topics from literature, philosophy, haikus, fairy tales, moods, colours, numbers, the impossible, the contradictory
  • enabling constraints – enabling limitations
