Blindflug
Lauren Newton (US/DE) – vocals
Sebastian Strinning (SE/CH) – saxophone, bass clarinet
Emanuel Künzi (CH) – drums
The improvising trio Blindflug came together in Lucerne in 2012. Since then the three musicians have been working on their common sound and have played several small Swiss concert tours. Their debut album Without Doubt was created during a recording session in the deep Emmental and live at the Jazz geht Baden festival. They understand their music as an invitation to the audience. The music is spontaneous, polyphonic, narrative and close. Far away from fat basses, sound painting is created here (the low register is used very sparingly), which can become very dense and, to a certain extent, dance in poise. The classic role allocation of the instruments has been abolished. Rather, the focus is on the improvised overall sound. It seems that this music is in the air.
The singer and performer Lauren Newton from the USA has been performing at the most important festivals in Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, Africa and Asia since 1975. Her extensive oeuvre is documented on over 75 sound carriers. She has an immense artistic experience. She is flanked by two of the most exciting young Swiss improvisers. Emanuel Künzi and Sebastian Strinning have already made a name for themselves in Switzerland for their archaic and independent musical work. Both are former students of the Lucerne Jazz School. There they also started working with Newton as the trio Blindflug.
