The trio KSS: KAUFMANN_SCHICK_SCHULKOWSKY consists of three renowned international improvisers from three different generations. Each of them has developed their own unique style on their instrument (piano, turntable, drums) and collaborated with a variety of important sound artists. The resulting music is electro-acoustic, crisp, textural and playful at the same time, full of detail and organic flow.

Ignaz Schick is a Berlin-based sound artist, composer and visual artist. As an instrumentalist, he uses turntables, objects, live electronics, alto and baritone saxophone and flutes. In his youth, he played saxophone in free jazz and avant-rock bands and experimented with various sound generators. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he worked as an assistant to the composer Josef Anton Riedl. He has lived in Berlin since 1995 and is a formative force in the experimental music scene. Schick has worked with numerous sound artists worldwide and runs the music label Zarek.

Achim Kaufmann is a German jazz pianist and composer. He studied in Cologne and at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Kaufmann has been a member of various ensembles, including the trio with Frank Gratkowski and Wilbert de Joode, a duo with Michael Moore and the Trio grünen with Christian Lillinger and Robert Landfermann. He has worked with numerous renowned musicians, including Han Bennink, George Lewis and Ingrid Laubrock. He has been Professor of Piano and Ensemble at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar since 2018. Kaufmann received the SWR Jazz Prize in 2001 and the Albert Mangelsdorff Prize in 2015.

Robyn Schulkowsky is an American percussionist and composer. She studied at the University of Iowa and the University of New Mexico and was principal percussionist of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. She has lived in Europe since 1980 and has worked with composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage and Iannis Xenakis. Schulkowsky has performed all over the world and is involved in experimental research into new dimensions of sound. She founded the Drums Summit festival and has composed works for theatre productions and films.
