Ulrike Lentz

Flutist, state-certified music teacher for flute, curator,
Deep Listening Certificate Holder (Centre for Deep Listening at Rensselaer, New York)

Ulrike Lentz’s artistic work focuses on the expanded sound possibilities of the flute in the context of free improvisation as well as her own concepts between new music and jazz. Her concert activities bring Ulrike Lentz into contact with musicians worldwide. She performs in duo with the New York flutist Robert Dick, the trio Lentz-Vorfeld-Hammerschmidt and with the accordionist Anja Kreysing in the German-Italian project ABRASH.

Her workshop “Wind Experience” has taken her as a guest lecturer to institutions such as the Mozarteum Salzburg, the University of Gießen and the Mainz Flute Festival 2014. She is a lecturer at the Exploratorium Berlin and worked as a lecturer for specialised didactics and teaching practice for woodwinds at the Kassel Music Academy. Ulrike Lentz teaches flute enthusiasts of all ages and abilities at the Flute Studio (Kassel).

She began her training at the Erlangen Music Institute in Dieter Bihlmeier’s flute class, which was later taken over by Hannah Feist. Bihlmeier introduced her to new playing techniques and newer forms of jazz at an early age.

She studied music at the Wiesbaden Music Academy, graduating with an SMP in 1997 and a KA in 1999. She was a student of Fred Peter (body disposition work for female musicians) and Prof. Irena Grafenauer. Active participation in masterclasses with Aurele Nicolet, Carin Levine, Robert Aitken and the Bozza Quartet.
After graduating, courses and further training followed with Dr Wolfgang Strobel, Prof. Ilse Middendorf (“Experiencing Breath for Wind Players and Singers”), Matthias Schwabe, Klaus Holsten, Deep Listening Institute (NY), among others.
