Super Librum Cantare

Polyphonic Renaissance Improvisation

© gemeinfrei

Facilitator: Ariane Jeßulat

Location: exploratorium berlin, Studio 2

Even though it may seem incredibly difficult at first to improvise polyphonically in the style of Josquin, Ockeghem and Lasso or even Palestrina, some of the basics can be learnt very quickly and sound surprisingly good in a group of four or more singers after a short time. It is astonishing that the behaviour of group improvisation in this style is not so different from free improvisation.

Participation with instruments, especially string or wind instruments or percussion, is possible and welcome.
