HSO’s ‘Expansions’ 2026/27 concert series features four new commissions, drawing on inter-generational talent with varied aesthetic orientations, but united by a shared fascination with just intonation.
“Triangulations” refers to interpersonal roles, such as active, passive, and flexible as well as direct sonic characteristics like tonality, spectrality, and noise; and poetic aspects such as transparency, opacity, and totality. It is Catherine Lamb’s first piece specifically written for HSO—an ensemble Lamb herself helped to form—showcasing the rare and distinctive skills of this collective of performers and composers devoted to a conception of harmony grounded in the natural acoustics of sound and resonance.
