Yuko Kaseki is a Butoh dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Berlin since 1995. She studied Butoh dance and Performing Art at the HBK Braunschweig with Anzu Furukawa and danced in her company Dance Butter Tokyo from 1989–2000. In 1995, Yuko Kaseki and Marc Ates founded the dance company cokaseki, which is as an ensemble for performative research around dance, visual arts and experimental music in live events and improvisation at theaters, galleries, site specific spaces, and film. Since then, various members have been part of the group in different roles and changing creative responsibilities. Her works are accumulations of poetic and vivid images that incorporate the spirit of Butoh, and her performance aims to reflect outsider’s existences. Yuko Kaseki was an artist fellow at Interweaving Performance Culture, International Research Center, Freie Universität Berlin, 2012–2013. She is a lecturer in contemporary dance and butoh worldwide.
Contagious are Sabine Ercklentz, Andrea Neumann and Mieko Suzuki. The Trio was founded in summer 2018, and creates a constant tension between club-oriented danceable and experimental music. The turntablist Mieko Suzuki has been active in Berlin’s club scene since many years and hosts the collaborative, multidisciplinary music event Kookoo at OHM Berlin among others. Sabine Ercklentz and Andrea Neumann belong to the innovative voices in the experimental music scene in Berlin. Together, through mutual contagion, they seek to discover new aesthetic spaces. They plunder each other’s musical spheres, appropriate them and switch roles: in fragile sound textures pulses become audible. Groovy beats implode in noisy fragments, which grow to a trance like stream. Autonomous sound becomes danceable – beats become transparent.
