Mit dem Improfest Berlin findet erstmals eine Berliner Ausgabe des brasilianischen Improfest – Festival Internacional de Improvisação e Arte Sonora statt, das seit 2007 von Paulo Hartmann mit aufgebaut und kuratiert wird. Über zwei Jahrzehnte hat sich das Improfest als internationale Plattform für freie Improvisation, Klangkunst, Performance und experimentelle Musik entwickelt und dabei Künstler*innen, Szenen und Institutionen aus Brasilien, Europa und darüber hinaus miteinander vernetzt. In Kooperation mit Paulo Hartmann bringt das exploratorium berlin diesen transatlantischen Dialog nun nach Berlin.
Die Berliner Festivalausgabe widmet sich den Schnittstellen von experimenteller Musik, Improvisation und innovativem Instrumentenbau. Es fungiert als transatlantische Plattform für künstlerische Innovation und bringt die kreative „Gambiarra“-Kultur Brasiliens mit der Berliner Echtzeitmusik-Szene zusammen. Im Zentrum steht das Erbe Hans Reichels, dessen Arbeit das Instrument nicht als bloßes Mittel der Klangerzeugung verstand, sondern als Erweiterung von Körper, Wahrnehmung und Vorstellungskraft. Außerdem geht es um das Potenzial von Netzwerktechnologien als Werkzeug zeitgenössischer Improvisation.
In Vorträgen, Panels und Live-Performances sind unter anderem zu erleben: Paulo Hartmann, Annette Krebs, Kriton Beyer, Emilio Gordoa sowie das Ethernet Orchestra featuring Alex Carôt und seiner Soundjack-Software.
