Lauren Newton

Born in Orgeon, USA. After teaching positions in Graz, Essen and Berlin, she is since 1995, professor for jazz vocals and free improvisation in Lucerne, Switz. She has worked with Ernst Jandl, Bobby McFerrin, the Vienna Art Orchestra, Maria Joao and Aki Takase, Joelle Léandre, Anthony Braxton among others, and has performed as soloist in diverse theatre and dance productions. In 1983 she won the Annual German Critics Award for her solo album “Timbre“. In 2020 she received the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize Life Achievement Award. Newton performs regularly throughout Europe and Japan. Her discography includes ca. 70 recordings.
