The exploratorium offers a wide range of different instruments and sound objects which invite you to play and explore them.
Which sounds and rhythms can be discovered? How can we develop pieces of music in a live group process?
We don’t need scores for that! Instead, we will use playing rules to invent music together that hasn’t existed before.
Previous music knowledge is not necessary, but curiosity for new sonic adventures.

This workshop is suitable for groups of any age starting from school age.

Instrument maker Stefan Roszak shows how to build well sounding instruments with just a few hand movements.

In the presence of the participants, about ten different simple musical instruments are built within two hours, which can be easily reproduced. Their function, acoustic basics and music-historical connections are explained in a vivid way. Afterwards, the instruments will be played in an improvised orchestra.

Number of participants: max. 15 persons. Larger groups can be divided. The two-hour handicraft part is then performed twice in a row. Afterwards the sub-groups are brought together again in the one-hour musical part.

Training for teachers of all instruments

This workshop offers theory and practice of elementary (unconditional) improvisation in instrumental lessons. Starting point will be practical exercises of all participants. Tried and tested rules for playing provide the framework for discovering and developing improvisation with experimental sounds as well as in tonal and metric music. In joint follow-up discussions, we will reflect on the practical experiments and develop methodological and didactic principles. All participants will be provided with a rich collection of written material and ideas.

This offer is aimed at groups of interested people, especially music school colleagues.

If you are interested as an individual, please contact me as well. Possibly you can participate in a workshop booked by a group.

One or two-day training courses for teachers on early childhood aesthetic research with sounds and music

How can sound&noise projects open the way for children to a wide range of music experience?

Since 2009, geräusch[mu’si:k] e.V. has been realizing artistic mediation projects on listening as complex perception, on experimental music with everyday sounds and on composing with graphic notation techniques. This expertise with over 1,500 children in day-care centres, schools, museums and other educational institutions is conveyed in practice-oriented courses at universities and educational training institutes.

In this workshop, we build small instruments out of waste or cheap everyday materials, which can also be used by children of kindergarten and primary school age with a little support. Additionally, sound generators from the workshop, kitchen and nature enrich our orchestra. In this way, fascinating instruments are created through materials research, which can be used in improvised concerts and compositional games.

Main topics:
   – Aesthetic research
   – Experimental music
   – Cooperative behaviour when making music and promoting resilience
   – Environmental experience and research-based learning

Since 2009, geräusch[mu’si:k] e.V. has been realizing artistic mediation projects on listening as complex perception, on experimental music with everyday sounds and on composing with graphic notation techniques. This expertise with over 1,500 children in day-care centres, schools, museums and other educational institutions is conveyed in practice-oriented courses at universities and educational training institutes.

In this workshop we will jointly examine a material pool of everyday noise generators (such as rustling paper bags, snapping rubber bands or whirring rulers)
and explore possibilities of sound production: beating, stroking, scratching, rubbing, throwing, dropping, rolling etc. These elementary musical phenomena of our acoustic environment are playfully transformed into free musical structures through guided conducting exercises. With the help of simple notation signs they can be used to create own compositions. Hints for games, experiments and music examples for children will round off the course.

Main topics:
   – Aesthetic research
   – Experimental music
   – Cooperative behaviour when making music and promoting resilience
   – Environmental experience and research-based learning

Welcome to our monthly meeting for makam-based improvisation!
Once a month on Sunday, we will meet at noon to play and improvise together in a given makam or two for two full hours. The improvisation will be lead by Tayfun Guttstadt on the Ney. Theoretical aspects will be worked on, too, but the focus is on playing together and feel the mood of the respective makam. Typical forms of oriental music will also be introduced, everything by playing and feeling.

All instruments including voice and all levels welcome.

Dates until January 2021:
23.8. | 13.9. | 4.10. | 15.11. | 13.12. | 17.1.2021

Can take place again with up to ten people. Registration required!

Since organizers are currently obliged to keep lists of their visitors, address and telephone number must be given with the registration. This data will be kept for four weeks in order to be able to trace chains of infection if necessary and to inform those affected. After four weeks this data will be deleted.

This continuous ensemble consists of musicians of different cultures and backgrounds who meet regularly for intercultural music exchange and creative ensemble playing on the basis of free improvisation.

Together, they invent music made of tone, sound, noise, rhythm and language, experiment with advanced instrumental techniques and ways of interaction, explore artistic commonalities, develop new forms of experimental, improvisational and intercultural music practice and perform in public.

Admission of new members is possible after consultation, especially newcomers who have fled to Germany, but also residents in Berlin with cultural roots outside central Europe.

Participation is free.
